DLC unveils mural & celebrates 30th anniversary (Herald-Sun)

DURHAM -- Teddie Brown, a longtime volunteer tutor with the Durham Literacy Center, listed the countries of origin for some of her students -- Afghanistan, Iraq, El Salvador, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and more.Brown, a former board member of the center, teaches English to immigrants and refugees, one of six programs of the center. She and another tutor teach a class of 13 students, and “out of the 13 students, the first week I had 12 different countries represented,” Brown said.
