Honoring Mary Dunn Siedow (1942-2017)

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the death of Mary Dunn Siedow, the first executive director of the Durham Literacy Center, on July 7, 2017.
Mary was a dedicated champion of adult literacy, exemplified by her leadership as the DLC’s executive director from 1987 to 1994 and her service on the board of directors from 2009 to 2015. Mary also served on the board of the NC Literacy Association and several other nonprofit organizations. In addition, Mary was the director of NC Literacy Resource Center, a service agency that supported literacy practitioners across the state of NC from 1994 until her retirement in 2002. She served as a national trainer for Equipped for the Future and wrote curricula and many scholarly articles on adult literacy.

Services will be held on July 13 at Immaculate Conception in Durham.
