1.  Become a Member of the John Hope Franklin Literacy Society

 

The John Hope Franklin Literacy Society is the DLC's sustaining donor program. Members of this giving society enable the DLC to become more sustainable and allow our programs to thrive and grow. Please click here for more information.

 

2.  Donate online using our secure donation page here.



3.  Donate by Check



Make your check out to the Durham Literacy Center and send it to this address: Durham Literacy Center, PO Box 52209, Durham, NC 27717. One hundred percent of your donation will support our programs. 


4.  Year-end Tax Deductions, Retirement Accounts, Charitable IRA Rollover, 

     Gift Planning, and Stocks

• If you have retirement accounts and are over the age of 59 1/2, you may be entitled to additional benefits (e.g., reduction in income or estate taxes) when taking a deduction for your gifts to the DLC. 

 

• Donors of any age can still make a deferred gift of an IRA or other retirement account by naming the Durham Literacy Center as a beneficiary of the account at their death.

 

Stock donations are an excellent way to support the Durham Literacy Center's mission and services, while also obtaining potential tax benefits. If you are interested in this option, please email our executive director at lizzie@durhamliteracy.org or call 919-489-8383, ext. 22. Note: It is very important that you notify us when you make a donation of stocks.

5.  Employer-Matched Contributions



Some employers will match employee donations to charitable organizations like the DLC. Others hold employee giving campaigns and donate the funds raised to a local nonprofit. Is your employer one of them? If so, let us know. We will provide you with information that you can share with your employer or the campaign leaders. 

   

6.  iGive Purchases

 

If you shop online, you can sign up for a free iGive account, and generate donations at thousands of online shops at no additional cost to you. 

 

7.  Grocery Store Cards (automatic donations that cost you nothing!)
